Integrity Matters

Picture
Trade journals and media outlets have reported many stories in recent years describing specific investigations in the aftermath of the meltdown in the capital markets.  Many of these stories depict situations which involve appraisers acting without integrity.  While this behavior captures headlines the ethical issues are much deeper than integrity.

To describe any of these situations as a lack of appraiser integrity barely scratches the surface of appraiser integrity.  After all, shouldn’t we all expect that an appraiser acting as a disinterested third party providing an honest valuation is the absolute minimum of  standards.  When we talk about the integrity of Realty Advisors we are referring to something of much greater substance.

When we discuss our integrity we are referring to both the moral character of the appraiser and the quality and content of the appraisal and appraisal report.  An appraiser demonstrates professional, intellectual, artistic and personal integrity through their actions.  The product an appraiser produces demonstrates integrity by being free of corrupt or flawed data, reasoning, and information.

An appraiser demonstrates intellectual integrity through being open to ideas of others and criticism.   Intellectual integrity is that quality that enables a person to balance the various demands of intellectual work and to manifest intellectual virtues in a proper order. An appraiser who diligently follows the demands of the profession in such a way as to consistently display respect for others demonstrates artistic integrity.  An appraiser demonstrates professional integrity through knowledge and consistent application of the best practices and professional ethics adopted by this industry.

As you can see, when we state that integrity matters to us at Realty Advisors we are referring to something much more significant than the absolute minimum standard we should all expect but instead we are describing a fundamental core of our organization of who we are and what we are about.  Most of our clients find it rewarding to work with a firm where integrity matters as a foundational cornerstone.
